Information - Nurse Consultations

Our qualified veterinary nurses offer dedicated consultations to provide extra support for you and your pet. These appointments cover a wide range of services, from nail clips and medication demonstrations to post-operative checks and follow-up care. Nurse consultations give you the chance to spend time with our team, ask questions, and receive tailored advice on your pet’s health, husbandry, and wellbeing. Whether it’s routine care or extra guidance after a procedure, our nurses are here to make sure your pet gets attentive care and you feel confident at home.

Our nurses can assist with:

  • Nail clips to keep your rabbit or small pet comfortable.
  • Injections of pre-prescribed medication (only if prescribed by one of our vets).
  • Medical bum clips to maintain hygiene and reduce health risks.
  • Medication demonstrations, helping you feel confident giving treatments at home.
  • Other demonstrations, such as how to syringe-feed critical care or provide supportive care at home.
  • Dietary and husbandry advice, tailored to your pet’s needs.
  • Weight checks to help monitor ongoing health.
  • Post-operative checks, ensuring your pet is recovering well after a procedure.
  • Bandage changes and wound checks, to keep healing on track between vet visits.
  • Aftercare conversations, offering compassionate guidance on end-of-life options, including cremation and memorial choices.

Our nurse team also manage the admissions and discharges of our hospital patients. During these appointments, our nurses will go over everything you need to know about your pet’s ongoing treatment and care, and answer any questions you may have. Their knowledge and support help ensure your pet’s transition in and out of care is clear, smooth, and reassuring.

All of our nurses hold recognised Australian veterinary nursing qualifications and have undertaken additional species-specific training in rabbit, guinea pig, rat, and mouse medicine. This means every consultation is backed by professional expertise, ensuring your pet receives care that is not only kind and supportive but also informed by the latest knowledge in their field.

Please note: nurse consultations are available only for current clients whose pets have seen one of our vets within the last six months. Our nurses may recommend a consultation with a veterinarian if further assessment or treatment is required.
